Diet Plan for High Blood Pressure/ Hypertension

High Blood Pressure

High Blood Pressure Medically known as hypertension—affects about 30 percent of adults. It is a chronic condition where the force of blood against our artery wall increases and the pressure rises above 140/90.

Symptoms And Complications

It is a very common disease in India in both adult male and females. Many times, a person having high blood pressure shows no major symptoms but only a few vague symptoms like sweating, tiredness, headache etc. Due to this people are not able to find out if they are suffering from hypertension or not. Despite being almost asymptomatic, it has wide complications if not treated well on time. It can damage your kidneys ,cause stroke or heart related diseases or even dementia.

Causes of Hypertension

High blood pressure can be caused by many ways out of which the major contributing factor is poor lifestyle and wrong eating habits. Taking too much stress, smoking, drinking alcohol, disturbed or poor sleep patterns, eating high salt in meals, and drinking less water can all cause hypertension.

Prevent Hypertension

If you want to control or prevent this disease, dietary care with a few lifestyle modifications are very important. Research shows that about 62% of hypertension patients were able to stop their blood pressure medicines and maintain normal blood pressure by eating right and doing simple exercises. To treat high blood pressure ,a special diet called the DASH diet is used. DASH means Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension.
