Why “8 Glasses of Water a Day” Is Outdated: The Truth About Hydration & Your Diet

8 glasses of water a day is outdated advice!

Someone working out 2X a day and someone with a desk job & no workout cannot have the same water needs.

Because hydration is not a fixed number.

It is a personal equation that changes with your city, your body, and what is on your plate.

Foods can impact your hydration in 2 ways:

1️⃣ Pull water from your body

For example, Makhana, oats, dry nuts, high-protein foods, and sweet foods all absorb water from your system.

If your diet leans heavily on these, you can drink water all day and still feel depleted.

2️⃣ Genuinely hydrate you from the inside.

For example, Lauki, tori, parwal, tinda, leafy greens. All fruits. Buttermilk and curd.

These replenish fluids at a cellular level in a way that plain water alone cannot deliver.

Even nuts make a difference.

Dry nuts absorb water during digestion. Soaked nuts do not.

One small change, completely different effect on your hydration.

This summer, before you blame yourself for not drinking water enough, look at what you are eating.

Your plate is either hydrating or dehydrating you.

So, make a habit of checking your plate before you refill your glass. 🌿

PS: Foods that pull water are not bad, but are an essential part of a balanced diet at times – this post is to educate you about hydration and the effects of the nature of food on it.
